What makes a viz really stick with you? Try the three techniques below to enhance your ADV story.
1) Tell a Story
When selecting a viz location on the map, think about what made your activity a noteworthy adventure. Was it your longest one-day event? A race you performed well at? A new road or trail you discovered?
A personal story lends lasting value to your viz.
2) Use high-contrast colors
We want your viz to stand out. Take advantage of high contrast colors between your background map and activity heatmap.
The ADV "Map Styles" of Dark - No Label and Dark - Label are perfect backgrounds for print maps where the activity heat map data is the main story of the viz. In addition, choose high-contract line colors. In the example below, we use pink on black and gray to make the activity heatmap "pop".
Try other color combinations to optimize your viz story.
3) Keep the highlight of the viz in the foreground
Staying zoomed-in to your data on ADV will give style and character to your viz. The ADV platform shows increasing detail in your viz the farther you zoom in.
Try the image below for a zoomed in vs. zoomed out example:
Zoomed in - more detail, more style
Zoomed out - less viz detail
Enjoy your ADV viz creation!
